Eye Screening for Adults

Why do screening?

The risk of serious eye disease increases as your grow older. Some of these diseases do not show any symptoms until the disease is very advanced. By the time you notice blurring of vision, you may have advanced glaucomamacular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy. The visual loss is usually irreversible. Early detection and treatment is important to prevent irreversible damage.

Eye Screening Adults

Who should go for the screening?

People of age 40 years and above, especially those with a family history of eye disease such as glaucoma or macular degeneration and all patients with diabetes.

However, if you already suspect that you have an eye disease, please consult an eye doctor for a complete examination instead of going for a quick eye screening.

What do we screen for?

Our screening is focused on detecting glaucoma, early macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy in diabetes patients.

Who does the screening for you?

The screening will be conducted by optometrists. The photos, visual fields (if applicable), and other specialized tests will be reviewed by Dr Khoo Boo Kian.

Any eyedrops needed for the eye check?

Eyedrops are usually not needed for eye screening. You will be going through some simple tests conducted by an optometrist. We use a non-mydriatic fundus camera to capture image of the back of the central retina without dilating the pupils.

What do I get at the end of the screening?

You will be given a report stating the findings and recommendations, and a copy of the fundus photo print-out will also be given for your own reference. Should you require further follow up with the ophthalmologist (eye specialist), the optometrist will notify you.

How much does it cost?

SGD $80 onwards per screening. The screening will take about 30-45mins per patient.

How do I fix an appointment?

You may call us @ 6887 3797 or email us at eyespecialistclinicsg@gmail.com for appointment. Alternatively, you may approach any of our staffs for assistance.

What are the opening hours?

Our screening service is available from Monday–Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 9am to 12.45pm and closed on public holidays.

Please note:

  1. Like any other screening, this screening may fail to pick up all eye diseases.
  2. The retinal photo only captures the central part of the whole eye and may not detect any abnormalities in the periphery.
  3. Even if the screening results are normal, it is advisable to have regular screening annually.
